Partials and Dentures
The loss of teeth can lead to many life altering consequences including decreased eating and chewing capabilities, esthetic concerns and changes in facial appearance due to bone loss. Partial dentures and complete dentures are removable prosthetics that offer many patients with missing teeth great treatment options to address these issues. These prosthetics are used and worn during the day and then removed and cleaned at night.
A partial denture is used to replace some missing teeth on the upper and/or lower jaws (arch) while using a patient's remaining natural teeth for retention and support. Our office offers both resin-acrylic based and metal based partial dentures. A complete denture is used to replace all of the teeth on the upper and/or lower arches. Upper dentures obtain retention and support from the upper arch and the roof of the mouth (hard palate) while lower dentures rely only on the lower arch for retention and support. While many patients are able to adapt and function well with removable prosthetics, patients who have significant bone loss may require the use of dental adhesives to help their prosthetics stay in place.
